Information for thepurposesof flight planning shouldbeobtained from

Airservices throught theNational Aeronautical InformationProcessingSystem

(NAIPS)which is amultifunction, computerised, internet-based aeronautical

information system. It providespre-flight briefing information and ameansof

lodgingflight notification. NAIPS is accessed by:

• direct dialling from a PC; or

• accessing via the internet

A username and password are required as described inNAIPS access below.

PRE-FLIGHTBRIEFINGREQUIREMENTS

Remember that aweather forecast andNOTAMS aremandatory for flights

away from the vicinity of an aerodrome (CAR239) and, for VFR, an alternate

must be provided for flightsmore than 50 nm frompoint of departure

when forecast is below alternateminimum of 1500 ft ceiling and8 km

(AIPENR1.1).

This requires theNAIPS forWindows software tobe installedon your

computer. It canbe downloaded fromwww.airservicesaustralia.com and click

on flight briefing, or it is available fromAirservices onCD (call 1300306630).

When theNAIPS forWindows software is installed on your PC it is accessed

by direct dial to 0198 304 767 or via the internet.

You need a user name and password; thiswill be issued immediately at the

prompt.
