AREAQNH

AreaQNH is a forecast valuewhich is valid for a periodof 3hours and

normally applies throughout anAreaQNHZone (AQZ).

AreaQNHZoneswill besubdivided, ifnecessary, tomeet the followingstandards:

• AreaQNH forecasts are to bewithin+/- 5HPa of the actual QNH at any

low-level point (below 1000 ft AMSL) within or on, the boundary of the

appropriate area during the period of validity of the forecasts.

• AreaQNHmust not differ from an adjoiningAreaQNHbymore than5HPa.

LOCALQNH

Local QNH, whether provided byATS, AWSor Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) or

by using the altimeter subscale to indicate airfieldelevationAMSL, is used as

shown on page215.

LIMITATIONS

To retain aminimumbuffer of 1000 ft above the transition altitude, FL110will

not be available for cruisingwhen theAreaQNH is less than1013.2HPa.With

aprogressivedecrease in the valueof theAreaQNH, FL115 andFL120will not

be availablewhen theAreaQNH isbelow997HPa and980HPa respectively.

VISUALFLIGHTRULES (VFR) (CAR 172)

VFRflightmayonlybe conducted:

• inVMC; (see pages 218-224);

• provided that,whenoperatingat or below2000 ft above thegroundorwater,

thepilot isable tonavigatebyvisual reference to thegroundorwater;

• at sub-sonic speeds; and

• in accordancewith the250 kt IAS speed restrictions identified inAIPENR

1.1. (seepage 78).

Unless thepilot incommandholdsacommand instrument ratingornight

VFR (NGTVFR) ratingand theaircraft isappropriatelyequipped forflight at

night, aVFRflightmustnotdepart fromanaerodrome

:

• before first light or after last light (see page110); and

• unless theETA for thedestination (or alternate) is at least 10minutes

before last light after allowing for any required holding.
