A servo balance tab operates by moving-
Select one:

in the same direction as the movement of the control surface to resist deflection.
opposite to the direction of movement of the control surface to resist deflection.
opposite to the direction of movement of the control surface to assist deflection. Incorrect
in the same direction as the movement of the control surface to assist deflection.
Feedback
A servo or balance tab acts to make the control surface easier to move. When the control surface is being moved upwards, the balance tab moves downwards to produce a local lift force acting upwards to assist the movement of the control surface.

The correct answer is: in the same direction as the movement of the control surface to assist deflection.

Everything I have read would suggest that a servo balance tab operates opposite to the direction of the control surface to asssist deflection. Is the answer given in the online test wrong?

You are correct. The server was programmed to give the incorrect answer. It's been fixed now - thanks for the feed-back, it's much appreciated.
