Fuel Question

Hi Guys,

I have just completed a practice exam and have a question regarding the following:

A PVT Day flight is planned over a distance of 325 nm at a ground speed of 115 kt.
Planned fuel flow is 40 L/hr. Fixed reserve is 20L and taxi fuel is 4L.
The minimum fuel required at start up for this flight is closest to -

Select one:
135 L
115 L
143 L
156 L

My working was fine and I got an answer of 137; however, I picked 143 as this made more sense as 135 is below what we actually require to complete the flight with reserves intact. Why would it not be closer to 140 as in Commercial Ops wouldn't this be a more correct assumption?

Exam is next week - so hoping to find out the correct method of rounding.

Thanks!

I don't think that this is a rounding problem. The question asks which answer above is closest to the min fuel required - that would be 135 L.

I have no idea why an examiner would ask a trick question like this!
