One other question is why they just dont put both angle scales around the computer. That would make it easy to follow.

why they just dont put both angle scales around the computer.

Try printing a scan of the computer face and then writing in the scales ... it all gets a bit muddy and messy. My thought would be just to delete the scrap view of the cosine scale and rely on the user's knowledge of the sine and cosine relationship which would unclutter the picture considerably.
