rhys2012 created the topic: blocked static vent??

Hi Guys,

I recently got a question in the practise exams that read as follows:

The effect of a blocked static vent during a long climb would be -

the altimeter under reading
the altimeter over reading
the airspeed indicator over reading
the airspeed indicator under reading

the correct answer was d. however i beleive there are two corrects answers here as the altimeter would remain at the same altitude where the blockage occured and therefor underread??

Any advice much appreciated

Rhys

Yes, that's a point often made and I guess you could argue that the altimeter is under reading. However my view is that an altimeter that is stuck at one indication and not responding to any change of height is simply unserviceable.
