IFR Recency

MileHigh created the topic: IFR Recency

Hi everyone,

Pleased to join the community. I have a question regarding IFR recency which I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer.

I currently have a CPL with MECIR and am looking into doing some IF in a synthetic trainer in order to maintain recency. My issue is that to my knowledge all of the synthetic trainers in my area are only set up as Single-Engine trainers.

As per CASR 61.870 I am authorised to pilot an aircraft under the IFR if I have conducted at least 3 instrument approach operations within the previous 90 days in an aircraft or approved flight simulation training device. In addition I need to have done at least one of each of the approaches for which I am endorsed.

My question is, does the synthetic trainer I use have to be set up as an MEA in order to maintain my MECIR, or is a trainer configured as an SEA also suitable?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can clarify this for me.

G'day

You can use the single engine sim, as the recency is for the approach and not the aircraft category

Cheers
