New CASA publications for ATPL candidates. (25 Sep 2025)

These changes affect ATPL candidates only - They do not apply to CPL candidates.

The following CASA publications for CASA's ATPL examinations are currently available for download from
www.casa.gov.au/updates-handbook-and-exam-information-books.

ATPL (Aeroplane) Exam Information Book - Version 2.8
ATPL (Helicopter) Exam Information Book - Version 3.0
S76 - Performanace and Operation Handbook

There are NO significant changes to these publications except for terminology.
ETP replaces CP,
Contingency Fuel replaces Variable Reserve and
Final reserve Fuel replaces Fixed Reserve.

Route planning on ERC's

Hi Bob and Co,

(ERC 3) Page 206, Question 4, You're planning a flight from Dubbo to Sydney at 9000 feet, an appropriate erc route would be. Why wouldn't the answer just be direct all the way to Sydney on the V295?

Forgive me if i'm way off here, having a little trouble deciphering the erc's.

You need to check ERSA Flight Planning Requirements GEN-FPR-35 for preferred routes for planning out of YSSY.

Ahh right i see, so when it involves any of the major airports around Aus we would check the ERSA GEN-FPR section? Thanks
