baddles created the topic: Determine track from heading and wind

Hi all,
just reading through the CASA syllabus for CPL Navigation (Part 61 MOS Schedule 3, Unit 1.7.2 CNVC) as a final checkup, I noticed this item:

2.4 Computations
2.4.1. (d) determine TR given HDG, TAS, W/V

This is not one of the familiar exercises that we have drilled.

I'm curious whether anyone has seen this in an exam.

(The technique is explained in the Jeppesen CR manual (for example)
and is slightly more complicated than the usual exercise.)

(a) if it's in the syllabus, it's fair game for the exam.

(b) simple enough standard use of any of the navigation calculators (or, if you really want to be fancy, you can do it totally trigonometrically with the CR as you have the trig tables on the slides)

(c) you need to be just as competent in this one as any of the standard calculations.
